1 GEC FETES, AWARDS DISTINGUISHED STAFF AND RETIREES

Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) 1 Garrison Education Center (1GEC), has held an End-of-Year Teachers’ get-together and awards ceremony, under the theme: “Promoting Quality Education and Discipline in 1 Garrison Schools”, to refresh and honour personnel, and retirees, for their contributions from 2019 through to 2022, to the Centre.

The activity happened on Friday, 8 December, 2023, at the 1 GEC office area, Michel Camp, and was well-attended by Senior Officers from Burma Camp, and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive – Mr Yohane Armarh Ashitey, who was the Guest of Honour.

The 1 Garrison Education Officer – Major (Maj) Patience Yeboah Frimpong, in her welcome remarks, said 1 GEC has over the years worked and continues to work assiduously, to provide the necessary infrastructure and logistics needed for effective teaching and learning, and to create a conducive atmosphere, with the view to ensure quality education and discipline.

In that vein, Maj Frimpong cited the Centre’s procurement of hundred (100) ceiling fans, which have already been distributed to all 1 Garrison Schools, and the replacing of defective marker boards in the schools, with 20 boards having been replaced, thus far.

She enumerated support received from the Office of the Director of Education, Kpone-Katamanso, which include: a) aiding to put up a 10-seater toilet facility for Michel Camp 2 Junior High School; and b) the supply of 30 desk top computers, for effective teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Through the Eastern Naval Command, Maj Frimpong indicated that the Naval Base Schools were provided with some quantity of stationery and school bags, coupled with other educational accessories, whiles 1 Infantry Battalion, assisted 1GEC with about 60 trips of laterite, for the foundation works of the science laboratory complex under construction.

She presented the Centre’s aspirations to include; a) Completion of the Science Laboratory Complex; b) Provision of Air Conditioners in all Staff Rooms/ICT Centers; c) Provision of 10-Seater toilet facility for Michel Camp Primary and, d) Renovation of the Army Primary School Block.

She paid tribute to sponsors and supporters of the Centre, listing NNF PUBLICATIONS, ALL GOOD BOOKS, DON SERIES, YAGRA PUBLICATIONS, MAG-TWINS CO LTD, RUBEN SERIES, KENMAS PUBLICATIONS, FLAMINGO PUBLICATIONS, EXCELLENCE PUBLICATIONS, ALPHA UNIQUE STATIONERIES, and VESTEL PUBLICATIONS.

Awards were presented in the following categories (Best Subject Teachers awarded with Microwave or 32” TV): (i) French – 1) CAMP 1, Lily Agyeiwaa Anakwah; 2) SERVICES – Owusu Danso Lovia; 3) NAVAL BASE – Chief Kpakpofio.
