1998 Alumni of 5 Infantry Battalion (5Bn) Basic School, Burma Camp, Accra, have donated a water storage and distribution system to the school, as part of the Alumni’s corporate social responsibility.
The facility was officially handed over to the 5Bn Basic School Administration during a short ceremony at the school’s premises, on Friday 7 February 2025.
The Vice President of the Alumni – Mrs Millicent Baaba Acquah, speaking on behalf of the Class of 1998, stated that the project though modest, is to provide constant flow of water to sanitry facilities in the school, which she believes, would create a safe and conducive environment for students, teachers and non-teaching staff in the school.

She added that the gesture also demonstrates the Alumni’s renewed commitment to giving back to society, and ensuring that students have essential resources needed to thrive, both academically and socially.
At the handing over ceremony, a representative from the 5 Garrison Education Centre (5GEC) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major Nkansah lauded the initiative, describing it as a befitting way to contribute to the wellbeing of the next generation of students.

He indicated 5GEC’s commitment to providing a strong foundation for both students and teachers under it’s supervision, and urged the school especially, the students, to protect and preserve the facility, in order to serve its intended purpose for many years to come.
The Headmistress of the School – Miss Evelyn Nortey, also expressed her appreciation to the Old students, and promised to preserve the facility, as she further encouraged the Alumni and other organisations, to support students and teachers in the school.

The President of the Alumni – Warrant Officer Class Two (WOII) Obeng-Amoako Jonathan, also expressed profound gratitude to 5GEC, headed by Colonel Livingstone Penti, and the Commanding Officer of the 49 Engineers Regiment – Lieutenant Colonel Harrison Dadzie, for their respective support towards the project.
He also commended the executives, members, and individuals for their dedication, team work, and support in diverse ways, which have contributed to making the project a reality, adding that true success is measured not only by individual achievements, but by the ability to support and uplift others.

He futher expressed hope that the gesture will inspire other year groups to come together and also contribute in their own way, towards the growth and development of the 5Bn Basic School.
