2BN ORGANIZES 2023 WASSA

The 2 Infantry Battalion (2Bn) of the Ghana Army has organized its 2023 West Africa Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA), bringing together the various companies in the Unit for socialization.

On Wednesday 20 December 2023 at the Apambire Square, Myohaung Barracks, Apremdo-Takoradi, the Guest of Honour, and Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Sekondi-Takoradi – Mr Abdul Mumin Issah, reiterated the significance of WASSA as an annual social event marked by the military to feast, interact, amongst themselves.

He said the assemblage of diverse groups and individuals at the function attests to the good image and trust that had been developed between 2BN and its Civilian counterparts in the city, and thus implored the Unit to continue to keep the bond between it and its surrounding villages stronger.

Mr Mumin noted that despite the operational challenges the unit faced, it continued to display a high sense of professionalism in the discharge of its duty to the whole of Western and Western North Regions, ensuring the two regions were safe.

The Guest of Honour added that he was aware of the numerous infrastructural developments on-going at the Myohaung Barracks, under the leadership of the Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Daniel Atobrah Bondah, and commended him for the initiative.

He also expressed commendation to the Military High Command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), for the swift deployment of military personnel to volatile communities in the Western Region of Ghana, to ward off potential terrorist activities, illegal miners and other nefarious activities, while he encouraged all personnel of the Unit, to rally behind the CO with loyalty, commitment and dedication, in order to realise the Unit’s mandate and objectives.

Personnel who had distinguished themselves in their various work places in the course of the year, were recognized with awards, which were in four categories: Best Female Soldier went to Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Kyeraa Lynder; Best Male Soldier to L/Cpl Kusi Paul; Most Promising Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) with Instrumental Ability to L/Cpl Kwakwah Daniel; Best Defence Civilian Staff to Mr Joseph Ametepe, with each receiving a brand new microwave oven.

A special award was given to Master Caleb Apieti of Myohaung Basic School, for emerging Best Performing Student in the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination, in which he obtained aggregate nine, and was thus awarded a cheque of GHS 4,000 to support him further his education at the senior high level.

Some personages who graced the WASSA with their presence were the 2 Garrison Commander and Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command – Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo; Commander Flying Group, Air Force Base Takoradi – Group Captain SY Agbenyefia; Western Regional Police Commander – Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Arthur Osei-Akoto; Traditional leaders from the Apremdo Traditional Area who represented Egya Kwamena IX, amongst many.
