The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Michael Kwadwo Opoku, commissioned an ultramodern gymnasium christened the AMPONSEM-BOATENG RECREATIONAL CENTRE, for personnel of 4 Infantry Battalion (4Bn), at Complex Barracks, Kumasi.
The facility, which the GOC commissioned together with the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 4Bn – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Sarfo Kantanka Dapaah, on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, comprises a modern gymnasium, an Anteroom for Junior Ranks, accommodation for Guards, a bar, and an upper terrace for social events.

Lt Col SK Dapaah stated that the original idea was conceived by the late CO of the Unit – Lt Col Richard Amponsem-Boateng, who had initially planned to convert the old Matambo structure into a recreational facility, to enhance physical fitness of personnel.
Lt Col Dapaah said he decided to continue the project in honor of his predecessor’s vision, with the goal of improving the well-being and physical readiness of personnel.
GOC Brig Gen Michael Kwadwo Opoku expressed his gratitude to the CO and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the facility, noting that the gym was established to meet the physical needs of personnel, and thus urged them to fully utilize it.
