Ghana Army’s 66 Artillery Regiment (Rear) has celebrated its 2023 West African Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) at Volta Barracks, Ho, to enable personnel and families reflect on the activities of the Regiment, distress, interact among themselves and to celebrate a successful year.
The celebration on Friday 29 December 2023, had the Commander Rear – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Jalali Din Ibrahim, indicate in his opening remarks that the Unit’s primary role is to ensure there is peace and security in the Volta and Oti Regions, which have been well executed within the year.

He concluded his remarks, urging residents of the two regions, to cooperate with the security services in the region, since the latter exist to serve the needs of their security.
The Guest of Honour, and Volta Regional Minister – Dr Archibald Yao Letsa in his address, commended the Regiment on their hard work and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, as well as their continuous support to civil authorities to maintain law and order.

He admonished troops to brace up in the area of Internal Security Operations, as well as in the conduct of peaceful elections, since the success of the 2024 general elections largely depends on sound intelligence, and their obligation to defend the country at all cost.
He further urged residents of Oti and Volta Regions, and security personnel, to keep their ears to the ground at all times, remaining professional and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.

The ceremony, which was graced by families of personnel and some prominent persons of the two Regions, had some Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff presented with awards, for their hard work during the year.
