Ghana Army’s 6 Infantry Battalion (6Bn) commissioned a newly expanded Ultramodern Office Space and a 30 seater Nissan Welfare Bus at the 6Bn Headquarters in Kamina Barracks, Tamale.

The new office accommodation, commissioned on Friday 12 September 2025, has a basement that can be used as a bunker when fortified with the appropriate materials.

The bunker was dedicated to the memory of the First Commanding Officer, 6Bn – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) AK Ocran, who was appointed on 15 May 1964, when the Unit was formed in Takoradi.

The General Officer Commanding Northern Command (GOC) Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo in his keynote address stated that the commissioning of the facility demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Military High Command, through the Commanding Officer (CO) 6Bn, to the welfare and well-being of Service Personnel.

He commended the CO for his role in the growth of the Unit, particularly his efforts in spearheading the projects that were commissioned.

He urged him to continue with his hard work and dedication to the Unit and the Armed Forces as a whole.

The GOC also emphasized on the importance of having a Welfare Bus as a Unit and advised personnel to continue supporting the CO by maintaining the bus so that it can last longer in the process of serving its purpose.

He stated that expanding the Administration Block (Commanding Officers Office) has been one of his major priorities upon taking over command as the CO.

He added that, this expansion will go a long way to accommodate more Officers and visitors than it used to.

Beyond these gain, the CO also prioritised personnel welfare by equipping the Unit with a bus to ease their welfare challenges.

He also extended his gratitude to the GOC for his presence and support. He added that, the event was not a mere commissioning but a celebration of innovation and unwavering commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the Unit.

Present at the event were the Command Operations Officer Headquarters N/COMD – Col John Kwarteng; CO 93 Signal Regiment – Lt Col Benjamin Adjei, Senior Officers, Officers, the Regimental Sergeant Major of 6Bn, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff of 6Bn.
