Ghana Army’s 6 Infantry Battalion (6Bn) held a high-impact simulation exercise, codenamed ‘EXERCISE KAAMU’, to signify the completion of its pre-deployment training for Operation Peace Trail 2024.
At the closing ceremony on Wednesday 30 October 2024, 6 Garrison Commander, and Commander, Air Force Base (AFB) Tamale – Air Commodore (A/Cdre) Joshua Mensah-Larkai congratulated participants for successfully completing the training, and praised them for their sacrifices and efforts exhibited throughout the training.

He further advised them to remain united and work as a team, in protecting the country and be professional in their craft always.
The exercise, designed to test troops on their preparedness towards Ghana’s 2024 upcoming general election, evaluated their responses to various scenarios, including real-time situations, inter-agency coordination, crowd control, and media engagement strategies.

During the exercise, troops participated in scenarios such as deliberate vehicle checkpoint operations, crowd dispersal techniques, and simulated media interactions; setups carefully structured to mirror potential real-life situations that troops may encounter in maintaining internal security, during the upcoming elections.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei, commended the participants for their commitment and diligence throughout the training.

He encouraged them to apply their newfound skills responsibly during their deployment, urged them to remain non-partisan and to conduct all operations with fairness and integrity, and underscored the importance of avoiding sensationalism, and maintain the highest standards of conduct and discipline before, during, and after the elections.
The Commanding Officer, 6Bn – Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Ankuyi, stated the Battalion’s determination to reaffirm the battalion’s reputation as a modern training hub dedicated to excellence.

He urged the participants to carry the mantle of peace with pride, reminding them of their dual role as both citizens and uniformed personnel entrusted with safeguarding the nation, and charged them to be ambassadors of peace.
The Northern Regional Police Commander – Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Eric Winful, in a speech delivered on his behalf, commended the collaboration between the military and police throughout the training, and expressed optimism that, the joint training would build up troops’ skills and confidence, and strengthen the inter-agency cooperation necessary for a secure election.
