6BN GIVEN MORE ACCOMMODATION UNITS

Ghana’s Defence Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bimbilla – Mr Dominic Bingab Aduna Nitiwul, has commissioned 4-Storey Blocks of 16 Flats of 2-bedrooms accommodation in Tamale, for use by Officers of Ghana Army’s (GA) 6 Infantry Battalion (6Bn), as part the Government of Ghana’s Military Housing Project (MHP), under its Barracks Regeneration Program (BRP).

The Minister, along with the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) – Vice Admiral (V/Adm) Seth Amoama, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, and some Staff Officers of the GA Headquarters, inaugurated the facilities at the Kamina Barracks, Tamale on Wednesday 12 April 2023.

He reiterated an earlier point made that, although the expansion of GAF has compounded Ghana’s military housing deficit through increased recruitment, it is the vision of his government to have all personnel accommodated in Barracks. These efforts, the MP said, have been complemented by the military high command (MHC), who regularly marshal resources to help remedy the challenge.

Minister Nitiwul lauded the commitment and resourcefulness of the CDS, the COAS, the Chiefs of the Naval Staff (CNS) and of the Air Staff (CAS), who continue to exceed expectations in providing accommodation and other facilities throughout military Garrisons and units in Ghana. He highlighted other ongoing projects for the military.

The construction work of the building which commenced in September 2021, took eighteen (18) months and was completed in February 2023. It consists of sixteen (16) 2 Bedroom Flats on two (2) wings of eight (8) Flats each. Each Flat has 2 Bedrooms, a Living Area/Hall, a Dining Area, a Kitchen, Kitchen Balcony/Terrace, a Utility Area, Shared Washrooms, a Visitor’s Washroom, a Store and an Entrance Terrace. The facility has two (2) access staircases and four (4) access corridors that connect and link the two (2) wings of the block and the sixteen (16) Flats together.

The construction works were supervised by GAF’s General Headquarters’ Department of Engineering Services (DES), and was constructed by PolyChangda Overseas Engineering Company Limited, a Chinese Company.

Other dignitaries of the entourage included the Northern Regional Minister – Shani Alhassan Shaibu; Deputy Chief Staff Officer (DCSO), Logistics – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Kenneth Kwaku Kwaah Kumi; DCSO, Admin – Brig Gen Emmanuel Acheampong-Baidoo; General Officer Commanding, Northern Command – Brig Gen Matthew Essien; Army Secretary – Colonel Bernard Baba Pantoah, Commanding Officer, 6Bn – Lieutenant Colonel J Ankuyi. and Acting Sergeant Major of the Army – Senior Warrant Officer Class I (SWOI) Dormah T.
