GAF CNS RECEIVES NEW US DEFENCE ATTACHÉ TO GHANA

The newly appointed United States (US) Defence Attaché (DA) to Ghana – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Brian Gilbert has made his maiden visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Issah Adam Yakubu at the Naval Headquarters.

Lt Col Brian, who recently assumed his role as the US DA to Ghana was received on Tuesday 20 February 2024, with a warm welcome by the CNS, as they discussed various matters of mutual interest related to defence and security.

The maiden visit was aimed at fostering greater cooperation and strengthening the already existing partnership between the US Department of Defence and the Ghana Navy.

The CNS congratulated the DA and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the defence forces, and highlighted the need for continuous dialogue and information sharing, to ensure safe and secured maritime waters, “The goal is to achieve security at sea” he said.

He thanked the US Government for their immense support to the Ghana Navy in the areas of training and logistics, and appealed for more of such initiatives, and urged the DA to explore the Ghanaian culture and its hospitable people.

Lt Col Brian on his part expressed gratitude for the warm reception, and pledged to continue the existing collaboration and partnership with the Ghana Navy.

Rear Admiral Yakubu climaxed the meeting with the presentation of a hand-woven stole, and a plaque to the DA.
