The Chief of the Defence (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah has described the relationship between Ghana’s military and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) as a partnership for national development.
General Oppong-Peprah said this when he led a delegation from the GAF to pay a courtesy call on the Director General of GTEC – Professor (Prof) Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, at the GTEC Headquarters in Accra, on Monday, 25 March 2024.

During their interaction, the CDS stated that his visit was to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions, especially towards obtaining a Presidential Charter for the establishment of the National Defence University (NDU).
On his part, Prof Jinapor commended the CDS for his transformational leadership, and reiterated the willingness of the Commission to provide the necessary services within its mandate, especially in facilities and quality assurances to the GAF, in the realization of the NDU.
The DG also noted that, the NDU was envisioned by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the GAF – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, due to security concerns on the continent, and therefore, emphasized the need to equip Ghana’s Military institutions with contemporary knowledge and skills to deal with emerging challenges.

Prof Jinapor also assured the CDS of the commitment of GTEC to support GAF to establish the NDU during the tenure of Lt Gen T Oppong-Peprah as the CDS.
Present with the CDS were the Commissioner General, Ghana Boundary Commission – Major General (Maj Gen) Emmanuel Wekem Kotia; Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations and Training – Maj Gen Joseph Aphour; and the Chief Coordinator at the National College of Defence Studies – Brigadier General PS Tanye-Kulono.
