GOC S/COMD VISITS 1 FIELD WORKSHOP

by Kofi Ampeah Woode

General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command (S/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, has paid a familiarisation visit to 1 Field Workshop in Burma Camp.

The visit on Thursday, 19 June 2025, formed part of the itinerary of the GOC’s operational and familiarisation visits to all units and Forward Operating Bases (FOB) in S/COMD Areas of Operational Responsibility (AOR).

The visit also aimed to give the GOC, who assumed command in May 2025, the opportunity to acquaint himself with the Units under his command, meet and interact with troops, as well as receive actual information on the various activities conducted by the Units, in support of military operations.

The Officer Commanding (OC), 1 Field Workshop – Captain (Capt) Christopher Ampaabeng Appiah, received the GOC at the Unit and provided a thorough brief of the operational, logistics and administrative state of the field workshop.

He indicated that, even through numerous challenges, the Unit has tried to fulfil its mandate of repairing and maintaining all equipment of engineer concern on charge to Headquarters Southern Command and units under command over the period.

Brig Gen IN Paintsil was conducted round the workshop infrastructure in the Unit, where he inspected and observed some mechanical and electrical engineering equipment possessed by the Unit.

At a durbar of all ranks in the Unit, Brig Gen IN Paintsil underscored the important role the 1 Field Workshop plays in support of the Command’s Operational activities.

He indicated that the Military High Command was working tirelessly to retool and equip all Units in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), to resolve the operational, administrative and logistical shortfalls in the Army.

The GOC entreated Officers, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff to desist from acts such as illegal one-man operations and recruitment fraud, that end up putting the hard-earned reputation of the GAF into disrepute, but remain disciplined and work diligently wherever they may be deployed.
