In a landmark event, President of Ghana’s National Defence University (NDU) – Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Felix Adom Asante, awarded Postgraduate Degrees in Defence and Security Studies to graduates of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Junior Staff Course 83, during their graduation ceremony.
The event on Friday, 20 June 2025, at Teshie Ridge, Accra, marked a significant milestone since the NDU received its Presidential Charter, and is the first time the university has awarded postgraduate degrees to a constituent college.

Previously, these academic course certificates were awarded by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and the University of Ghana, thus NDU’s conferral of these degrees signifies its new authority and academic standing.
The Junior Staff Course is meticulously designed to cultivate leadership, analytical acumen, and communication proficiency in Junior Officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), and others from allied African countries.

The curriculum equips them to effectively undertake command and staff responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on research and a comprehensive grasp of single-service, joint, and combined military operations.
Furthermore, the course provides foundational knowledge in crucial areas such as defence management, economic issues, and geopolitical dynamics.
