GHANA’S VETERANS ADMINISTRATION GOVERNING BOARD INSTATED

Ghana’s Minister for Defence – Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has officially inaugurated the Governing Board of the Veterans Administration, Ghana (VAG), and given VAG a cheque of One Million, Four Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand Cedis, to support the operations and welfare initiatives of the Administration.

The event took place at the Addo Kufour Conference Hall of Ghana’s Defence Ministry – also known as The Square – Cantonments, Accra, on Wednesday 16 July 2025.

Delivering his remarks for the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces – His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Minister congratulated the Board and reaffirmed the government’s trust in their capacity to lead the institution, and to promote the welfare of Ghana’s ex-Service Men and Women.

Dr Boamah praised veterans for their dedication and bravery in serving both at home and on international peacekeeping missions, and highlighted the persistent challenges Veterans face after retirement, including access to quality healthcare, delayed pensions, and financial constraints.

He assured the Board of the government’s commitment to solving these issues through enhanced healthcare delivery, financial support systems, employment pathways, and better recognition of Veterans’ contributions to national development.

The Minister also urged the new Board to go beyond traditional governance roles, by becoming champions of Veterans’ welfare.

Dr Boamah also encouraged innovation, stronger partnerships with the private sector, and collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, to implement effective programmes that support Veterans, and the families of fallen soldiers.

The 12-member Board is chaired by Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Peter Kofi Faidoo (Rtd), with Members including Air Commodore Thomas Niifio Okai, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Charles Gbekle, Brig Gen Seidu Mumuni (Rtd), and Brig Gen Nicholas Kwami Kporku (Rtd):

Others are; Colonel John Wilberforce Kweku Asabre (Rtd), Group Captain Seth Fianya (Rtd), Major Christine Naa Adoley Oko (Rtd), Captain John Kwame Jabari (Rtd), Ex-Warrant Officer Class One (WO I) Akpakli William Koku, WO I Nyarko Moses Amoah, and WO I Issaka Abukari.

Each member took the Oath of Office, Oath of Secrecy, and Oath of Allegiance during the ceremony.

In his acceptance on behalf of the Board, Rear Adm Faidoo (Rtd) expressed the Board’s appreciation to the President and the Minister, for the confidence placed in them, and pledged the Board’s dedication to delivering on its mandate with diligence and professionalism, while prioritising the well-being of Veterans, and preserving the legacy of Ghana’s Service Men and Women.

Witnessing the event included the Deputy Minister for Defence – Mr Ernest Brogya-Genfi, and some Principal Officers of the Ministry.
