by Ghana Peace

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command (S/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Isaac Nicholas Paintsil has officially opened a two-week Induction Training Course for the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) Company, deployed to the command headquarters.

In his remarks opening the training on Wednesday 16 July 2025, Brig Gen IN Paintsil indicated that training remains the bedrock of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), therefore it is imperative for troops to train or be trained at all times, to enable them know what to do, when confronted with security challenges.

He stated that the purpose of the of RDF is to be a reserve force at the behest of the GOC, ready to move at the shortest possible time, to react to operational emergency situations, hence the need for troops to train, in readiness for the tasks ahead of their 6 months tour of duty, at the command headquarters.

General Paintsil advised troops to remain professional and highly motivated at all times, to help Higher Command achieve success for the GAF and the country at large.

He also admonished troops to abide by rules and regulations, and desist from acts that tarnish the image of the force, including illegal and unauthorised operations, providing bodyguard services to wealthy civilians, land guard duties, robbery and recruitment fraud, amongst others.

The training is designed to equip the RDF Company with the requisite skills and capabilities to operate effectively, when called upon to respond to any form of crisis or security situation, in S/COMD’s Area of Operational Responsibility (AOR).

The two weeks course will cover lessons on Rules of Engagement, Cordon and Search, Weapon Training, Voice Procedure, Basic First Aid, Physical Training, and Crowd Dispersal, amongst others.

A Basic Fitness Test (BFT), and Test on Elementary Training (TOET), will be conducted as part of the course, to assess troops’ knowledge and fitness state for the tour of duty.
