UNISFA GHANBATT 4 HOLDS INDUCTION RELIGIOUS & CONSECRATION OF COLOURS PARADE

The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Ghana Battalion 4 (GHANBATT 4) held an induction religious parade and Consecration of Colours ceremony for the Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Jacob Nbaamundoh Nanjo.

The ceremony, on Saturday 9 August 2025, at the Battalion Headquarters, Athony, Abyei, featured a joint sermon delivered by the GHANBATT Imam – Captain MA Shuaib, and Chaplain, Captain IK Amoquandoh‐Newton, on the theme “Called to Serve with Excellence and Purpose.”

They emphasised the importance of teamwork, unity, and purposeful service in fulfilling the UNISFA mandate, urging personnel to avoid favouritism and work towards common objectives, following after which the CO was formally inducted into office.

The Guest of Honour, and Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander (HoM & FC) – Major General Robert Yaw Affram, addressed the troops, stressing the need to remain focused on mission objectives, while upholding excellence and integrity.

He cautioned against complacency, underscoring the importance of vigilance, discipline, and adherence to the highest standards of conduct, including the prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in the mission area.

In his remarks, the GHANBATT CO expressed gratitude to the Military High Command of the Ghana Armed Forces for entrusting him with the leadership of the Battalion, and pledged to lead with humility and determination, highlighting teamwork and discipline as essential for a successful tour of duty.

The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including senior officials from the Forces Headquarters, COs of other Troop Contributing Countries, and representatives from various UN agencies.
