Ghana Army’s Special Operations Training School (ASOTS), Daboya held an Inter-Company Novice Boxing Competition for recruits of Basic Infantry Training Course 1-23, testing their physical fitness, endurance, combat fitness and essential qualities, for the challenging tasks ahead of them, after the completion of training.
Addressing the gathering on Monday 13 to Friday 17 November, 2023, the Command Operations Officer (COO), Headquarters, Northern Command (N/COMD) – Colonel (Col) Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo, on behalf of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), N/COMD – Brigadier General Matthew Essien, highlighted the objectives of the basic military training.

He stated that the training was to produce well-trained, highly motivated, physically and mentally robust Soldiers, capable of undertaking any task assigned to them, and that the boxing competition served as a critical component, to measure the progress the recruits had made, both physically and mentally, since their training begun.
Col Agbebo however cautioned the prospective Soldiers, to use the skills acquired only to protect civilians and themselves, when faced with an attack.

Recruits Wobil Frank and Osuman Faruza were adjudged as the BEST MALE BOXER and BEST FEMALE BOXER, respectively, whiles Hippo Company won the OVERALL BEST COMPANY award.
Present to witness the occasion were the Commanding Officer (CO) ASOTS – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Daniel Nii Armah Quaye; CO, 69 Airborne Force (69 ABF) – Lt Col L Boakye, and other Senior Officers, as well as some residents of the Daboya township.
