Ghana Army’s Artillery Training School (ATRS), based at the Akoefe Training Camping in the Volta Region, has commenced its maiden Young Officers Artillery Course 1-25, reflecting on the core values of the Artillery Corps, and as a means to institutionalize Officer training through homegrown excellence, driven by professional initiative.
The opening ceremony was held on Monday 14 July 2025, with the Guest of Honor being the Commander, Army Training Command – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Joshua Amanor, who stated that the maiden course is a clear statement of intent, and thus cautioned the participants to approach the course with all seriousness, discipline, curiosity and determination.

The Commander, 16 Artillery Brigade – Brig Gen Serlom Kwesi Amengor, also admonished the Officers to take this opportunity to approach every lesson with importance, since most of them are potential examiners.
In a welcome address, the Commanding Officer (CO), ATRS – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Patrick Atuiri, stated that the ideation of an Artillery Young Officers course has been in the pipeline for many years.

He further said that generations of Artillery Officers have pondered over the idea on several platforms, and thus lauded the 16 Artillery Brigade, for playing a critical role in making the dream a reality.
The opening ceremony of the course was graced by Colonel Edward Sarpong Appiah – Chief G3, 16 Artillery Brigade; Lt Col Jalali Din Ibrahim – CO, 66 Artillery Regiment; and Lt Col Larry Boateng – CO, 68 Artillery Regiment.
