AU COMMISSION DELEGATION VISITS GHANA BOUNDARY COMMISSION

The Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the Africa Union (AU) Commission – His Excellency (HE) Adeoye Bankole led a three-member delegation to pay a working visit to the Ghana Boundary Commission (GhBC), on the sidelines of their participation in the 45th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council Meeting convened in Accra.

After a detailed presentation by the Commission on Monday 22 July 2024, HE Ambassador Bankole commended the Commission for efforts towards ensuring well-coordinated joint boundary reaffirmation and cross border activities with neighbouring States.

Expressing appreciation of the GhBC’s work for implementing social intervention programs for deprived border communities, he underscored the need for Boundary Commissions on the African Continent to engage in experience-sharing, and highlighted their importance in promoting peace and stability on the Continent.

He urged all AU Member-States to ratify the AU Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation (the Niamey Convention) to ensure socio-economic integration in Africa.

The Commissioner General of GhBC – Major General (Maj Gen) Emmanuel Wekem Kotia communicated his gratitude to HE Ambassador Bankole and his team for the visit, and expressed appreciation to the AU Commission for the efforts and support at ensuring good border governance on the Continent.

General Kotia urged the AU Commission to continue to support the activities of Boundary Commissions in Africa towards safeguarding peace and unity on the Continent.
