The Ghana Boundary Commission (GhBC) has facilitated a two-day Validation Workshop focused on a Framework Agreement on Cross-Border Cooperation between Burkina Faso and Ghana, to enhance regional cooperation.
The validation workshop, which took place from 12 to 14 September 2024, in Wa, in the Upper West Region, was supported by the German Government through its implementing agency – Deutsche Gesellschaft fϋr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – and underscores the growing international commitment to regional stability and cooperation.

The primary objective of the two-day meeting was to review and validate the Framework Agreement, setting the stage for its formal signing by the Foreign Affairs Ministries of both States.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the GhBC, Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah Regions of Ghana, as well as counterparts from Burkina Faso, made up of officials from the Boundary Commission, and governors from adjoining communities.

The collaboration between the two countries has been hailed as a crucial step towards strengthening governance and fostering better management of shared borders.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the GIZ Support to the African Union Border Programme – Mr Valentin Schuetz, commended both states for their commitment towards enhancing cross-border relations, noting the importance of effective governance.
