Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Kweku Dankwa Hagan – the Outgoing Sector West Commander who also doubled as the Contingent Commander (CONTICO) for UNMISS has commissioned the Oppong-Peprah multi-purpose lodge at Ghana Battalion’s (GHANBATT’s) Rear Base, Juba
Brig Gen Hagan who was the guest of honour for the event on Wednesday 27 March 2024, in his remarks commended the Commanding Officer (CO) of UNMISS GHANBATT 11, Lt Col Dominic Ampomah for his vision in driving the project forward and making it a reality.

He further lauded the resilience and determination of the Juba detachment of the Battalion for their relentless efforts in bringing the project to completion. He commended other stakeholders in the Mission for exhibiting an unmatched role in making the Multi-Purpose lodge a reality.
He thus proposed that an appreciation board inscribing the names of stakeholders who contributed to the success of the facility should be made to serve as a symbol showcasing that unity and purpose were inter-woven for success of this structure.
The Commanding Officer (CO) UNMISS GH 11 Lt Col Dominic Ampomah in his address expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing CONTICO for his support and direction during the project after the detachment was gutted by fire on 29 October 2023.
He extolled the generosity, kindness and invaluable support of some individuals who responded aptly during the crisis.

He indicated that the overwhelming selflessness and comradeship exhibited by the Rwandan Battalion led the Commanding Officer, Lt Col Gilbert Ndayisabye during and after the fire incident as well as other stakeholders who assisted in divers’ ways contributed to the speedy recovery process.
Lt Col Ampomah praised the resilience of the Battalion to bounce back even stronger after such crisis. He also commended the GHANBATT Engineers led by Captain Timothy Oklu for their hard work in ensuring the successful completion of the project.
The facility which was named after the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah for his support during the crisis consists of a medical aid post, food storage room, barbering saloon, male and female transit accommodation, a bar and a rest room as well as dining room for soldiers.
The CO indicated that GHANBATT’s ingenuity and ability to build a more advanced facility than the existing structure is exemplary and inspiring. He further advised personnel to take good care of the facility and maintain it at all times to ensure its longevity.

Gifts and souvenirs were also presented to some of the individuals who supported this project in divers’ ways. The presentations were made by Brig Gen KD Hagan, Brig Gen D Gbedawo and Lt Col D Ampomah.
Some dignitaries in attendance were the in-coming Sector West Commander who doubles as the in-coming Contingent Commander, Brig Gen D Gbedawo, Commanding Officer Cambodian Military Police, Col May Saros Chea, Commanding Officer of Rwanda Battalion, Lt Col Emmanuel Ntwali and Commanding Officer Bangladesh Engineers, Lt Col Ruhul Amin.
Others were UNMISS Field Engineer, Mr Besim Gucati, Chiefs and representatives of various UNMISS Departments, Ghanaian Military Staff Officers as well as some friends of GHNABATT and UNMISS Ghanaian Staff.
