BRITISH ARMY GOC VISITS GHANA ARMY COMMANDER

Major General (Maj Gen) Gerald Mark Strickland – the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division of the British Army, has paid a visit to the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah, to explore avenues and assist to accelerate the implementation of the Accra Initiative – also known as OPERATION KOUDANLGOU.

When Gen Strickland visited on Wednesday 17 May 2023 at the Army Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, he was briefed on the Accra Initiative by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Commander – Maj Gen Michael Amoah-Ayisi and the Acting Commander, Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB) – Colonel IN Paintsil.

In expressing his appreciation for the visit, Maj Gen Oppong-Peprah acknowledged the British government’s continuous training assistance through courses and joint exercises in Ghana and in the United Kingdom.

The Accra Initiative aims to prevent spillover of terrorism from the Sahel and to address transnational organized crime and violent extremism in Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Member Countries’ border areas, and OP KOUDANLGOU is headquartered at Nyohini, Tamale, in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Present at the interaction were; the outgoing Chief Staff Officer (CSO), Army and GOC Central Command – Brigadier General Charles Agyemang-Prempeh, Deputy CSOs, Army; Branch Chiefs, Staff Officers from the MNJTF HQ and the Acting Sergeant Major of the Army.
