C-IN-C CONFIRMS CDS AND PROMOTES HIM TO VICE ADMIRAL

The Commander-In-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and President of the Republic of Ghana – His Excellency (HE) Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, in consultation with the Council of State, has confirmed the appointment of Vice Admiral (V/Adm) Seth Amoama as the substantive Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of GAF.

For that purpose, the CDS has been promoted in rank, from Rear Admiral (R/Adm) to V/Adm, that is from a 2-Star General to a 3-Star General on Thursday, March 4, 2021, by the C-in-C.

A statement signed by the Director, Public Relations of GAF – Colonel Eric Aggrey-Quashie, said a short ceremony was held on Friday 5 March 2021 at the General Headquarters (GHQ) of GAF, to congratulate the CDS – V/Adm Seth Amoama on his promotion and confirmation.

As part of the ceremony, all the Two-Star Generals of GAF were present, lined-up and paid compliments to the CDS, when the Admiral arrived at his office, amidst the blowing of fanfare.

The release said the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, on behalf of the Service Chiefs, Generals, Officers, Men, Women and Civilian Employees of GAF, congratulated the newly promoted Vice Admiral for his elevation and confirmation as the substantive CDS and pledged their unflinching support.

General Oppong-Peprah, presenting a congratulatory card to the CDS on behalf of all personnel of the GAF, stated that Admiral Amoama’s elevation and appointment to the rank of Vice Admiral, was tied to his professionalism, excellence and hard work over the period.

Vice Admiral Amoama was appointed Acting CDS on 5 February 2021, when he was Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS).

Present at the ceremony were the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) – Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Frank Hanson, Chief of Staff (COS) at the GHQ – Maj Gen Nicholas Peter Andoh, Air Officer Special Duties, AVM Frederick Bekoe, Commandant, Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) – R/Adm Moses Beck-Baffour, Commandant, Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS) – Maj Gen Charles Awity and Commandant, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) – Maj Gen Francis Ofori.

Also present were Captain (GN) Bright Atiayao, who represented the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) and the Forces Sergeant Major (FSM) – Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Barker Ramous.

GAF no longer uses “men and women”. They are all classified as soldiers.
