The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah has stressed the importance of collective action in detecting, preventing, and mitigating misinformation and disinformation.
He made these remarks during the launch of the Cyber Security Awareness Month on Tuesday, 1 October, 2024, at the Burma Hall, Burma Camp, Accra.

Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah also emphasized the crucial role individuals played in the digital space to ensure peaceful and fair elections, and noted that GAF would support civil authorities and security agencies to maintain Ghana’s democratic stature in Africa.
He further posited that, GAF would take measures to ensure personnel effectively discharged their responsibilities professionally, especially, ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He cautioned media professionals against unprofessional conduct, and urged them to report responsibly on security issues during the elections, urging them to clear their doubts with the GAF’s Department of Public Relations.
The event was organized under the auspices of the National Cybersecurity Authority and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization, and the Guest of Honour was Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
