Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah – Ghana’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) led a high-powered delegation to the 2nd edition of the Africa Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria, on November 20, 2024.
Upon arrival, the Delegation was warmly received by Nigeria’s Chief of the Defence Staff – General Christopher Gwabin Musa, at the Defence Headquarters.

The two Defence Chiefs engaged in productive discussions on enhancing regional security and cooperation between their respective armed forces.

The meeting was followed by a symbolic gift exchange, after which they attended the spectacular Opening Ceremony at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
The event featured impressive performances, cultural displays and inspiring speeches setting the tone for the Games.

The Games aim to promote unity, cooperation and camaraderie among African military forces. In all, over Thirty (30) African nations are participating, with around 3,000 athletes and officials competing in 19 games.
The Games would showcase the physical prowess, discipline, and resilience of military personnel, essential for collaborating in addressing regional security threats.

Other members of the delegation were the Chief of the Naval Staff, Ghana Navy – Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu; Defence Attache at the Ghana High Commission, Nigeria – Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing, Directors General and Senior Officers from the General Headquarters.
