The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has commissioned a mosque for use by Moslems at the Artillery Training School (ATRS).

The commissioning was held during the COAS’ maiden visit to the school on Thursday 14 March 2024.

The Guest of Honour for the commissioning event – Maj Gen BK Onwona, indicated that the Mosque represents more than a physical structure which embodies the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood that binds personnel together in service to the nation.

Maj Gen Onwona further expressed the hope that, the Mosque would serve as a sanctuary of peace and love for all, be a place where personnel find solace in times of struggle, inspiration for triumph, and urged GAF personnel to be dedicated to fostering an environment where every individual feels valued and respected, regardless of their faith.

The COAS also expressed his appreciation to the sponsors for wholly funding the construction of the mosque for the ATRS.

The Commanding Officer of the Training School, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Patrick Atuiri, in his opening remarks indicated that the project was necessitated by the challenges that Muslims had to go through to find space for the performance of their religious obligation, as the school is constrained with space for offices, classrooms and accommodation.

The commissioning was also graced by the General Officer Commanding, Southern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Samuel Yeboah Asare; Commander, Army Training Command – Brig Gen Stephen Woseadzikpo Kweku Parbey; Commander Rear 66 Artillery Regiment – Lt Col Jalali Din Ibrahim; Chief Executive Officer, Hussan Development Ltd – Alhaji Hussan Abubakar; Staff Officers at Army and Southern Command Headquarters.
