As part of activities to mark Land Component Week, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Ghana Army – Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has delivered a lecture on his vision for Ghana’s Army, to Officer/Students of Senior Command and Staff Course 46 of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC).

The COAS’s lecture at the military college’s Hamidu Hall on Thursday 17 October 2024, saw him outline his vision – “To maintain a cohesive, motivated and well-rounded Army capable of undertaking its mission of national defence, as part of the Ghana Armed Forces”, to the Senior Command and Staff Course 46 cohort.

General Onwona was accompanied by Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, who supported the COAS in delivering his vision to the students, who are critical mass of the weeklong commemoration, which is salient on GAFCSC’s academic calendar.

Ghana Army has a mission – “To defend Ghana against all threats to its sovereignty and territorial integrity across the full spectrum of land operations under a joint national framework, in order to promote peace and security for national development”.

The Strategic Objectives of Maj Gen BK Onwona as COAS are; 1) Enhance Combat Efficiency of the Army, 2) Ensure delivery of relevant and efficient training, 3) Deliver effective Administration at all levels, and 4) Revamp the logistics support system.

The COAS thus spoke of plans in motion to provide effective training, good administration and welfare packages for Army personnel at all levels.

During an interaction session of the visit, General Onwona was emphatic that effective training for all personnel, will result in reinforcing the professionalism and dedication imbibed in future military leaders, as they discharge their respective duties.

He further acknowledged the important role of GAFCSC in shaping the knowledge of such capable Officers for national security challenges.

He entreated the students to seize the opportunity provided by the College, learn as much as they could, and use the knowledge gained to mould their career paths in their respective Armed Forces.

The COAS concluded his visit to the College by presenting an undisclosed amount of cash donation to support the College’s infrastructural developments.

Traditionally, the Officer/Student’s population for GAFCSC’s Senior Command and Staff College Course 46 is composed of middle-level military Officers from a number of African countries, and the Land Combat Power Week is climaxed with live demonstration at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase.
