COAS PAYS WORKING VISIT TO APOTS

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has paid a familiarization visit to the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS), at the Battle Training Camp (BTC), Bundase, Greater Accra Region.

The maiden visit on Thursday, 21 March 2024, which took place amidst the backdrop of ongoing training of Battalions nominated for United Nations peacekeeping missions, showcased the COAS’ commitment to frontline engagement and welfare of troops, and also afforded him the opportunity to officially introduce himself and outline his vision to personnel.

Providing an invaluable opportunity for troops to voice their perspectives, an All Ranks Durbar was held for troops to have a formal interaction with the COAS who emphasized the pivotal role played by personnel in upholding peace and security, both home and abroad, as he was briefed on logistics, administration, training, and welfare matters of the Unit.

Advising troops, the COAS again underscored the importance of unity and cohesion in facing the challenges ahead, and reiterated the Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and protecting its citizens.

The highlight of his visit was a demonstration exercise, meticulously planned and executed to showcase troops’ tactical capabilities and operational readiness, which was led by seasoned Instructors, who used the exercise to simulate case scenarios as happens at the mission areas, ranging from protection of civilian camps to counterinsurgency operations.

With precision and expertise, troops demonstrated their proficiency in various combat manoeuvers, including the protection of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp, repelling of enemy attacks, and tactical manoeuvres, as the demonstration not only highlighted troops’ prowess, but also underscored their commitment to continuous training and preparedness.

Impressed by the display of skills and coordination, the COAS also commended personnel for their dedication and professionalism in executing the exercise, and additionally emphasized the importance of such training, in maintaining a high state of readiness and adaptability, in the face of evolving security threats.
