COL FAUSTINA DENNISON HANDS OVER GAF’S DEF MT BN TO LT COL KOJO QUANSAH

Command at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Defence Mechanical Transport Battalion (DEF MT BN) has changed from Colonel (Col) Faustina Dennison to Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Kojo Abaka Quansah, after the former had been at the helm for about ten (10) months.

A handing/taking over parade was held at the DEF MT BN Parade Square on Friday 25 July 2025, with the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Support Services Command – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Selassie Gagakuma, and the Director, Supplies and Transport – Col Fushieni Nantogma, supervising the transition.

Delivering a speech in honour of Col F Dennison, Brig Gen S Gagakuma said the outgone Commanding Officer (CO) pursued the transformation of the Unit into a highly motivated and unified one, with the welfare of troops and all staff at heart, and an aim to motivate the Unit’s personnel, improving work efficiency.

He further vouched that even though she had short tenure, Col Dennison’s leadership has left a massive impact on the DEF MT BN family, with a primary focus of improving the welfare of both troops and civilian staff, whiles increasing overall operational efficiency.

Col Dennison, who is now designated Chief, Army Equipment, Ghana Army Headquarters, took over Command of the Battalion on 20 September 2024, with her tenure witnessing firstly, the reconstruction of the Battalion’s Delta Company’s offices and garage to adequately accommodate the Troop Carrier Vehicles (TCVs), and provide a good working environment for personnel;

Secondly, she renovated the Unit’s Main Gates and Monument to enhance their appearance; thirdly, she secured funding, with support from the Defence Financial Controller’s office, to replace tyres on TCVs and buses in the Unit; fourthly, she overhauled the Unit’s second disused water tanker, to augment the water supply efforts within the barracks, with the generous support of the TOBINCO GROUP and Atlantic Concrete Limited of JUSTMOH GROUP.

Fifthly, through the Office of the Chief of Staff, two new KAMAZ TCVs were issued to augment the Battalion’s fleet.

In a farewell note to Lt Col Quansah, Col Dennison reminded that the DEF MT BN remains a linchpin in operational logistics, offering first and second line support to GAF’s General Headquarters, and third and fourth line transport support to the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

“In as much as I tried to continue with the good works that our predecessors commenced, the following projects remain outstanding; the reroofing of the Unit’s Armoury; the removal and replacement of two disused underground fuel tanks; and the renovation of the old Amenity Centre accommodations”, she stated, nicely transferring not only command, but also offloading the burden unto the new CO, Lt Col KA Quansah.

Present at the Pulling Out ceremony included friends and family, Retired Senior Officers of GAF’s Supply and Transport Officers’ Association, Senior Officers, Officers, the Regimental Sergeant Major, Soldiers, and Defence Civilian Staff.
