Ghana Army’s 153 Armoured Regiment (153 Armd Regt) has once again successfully transferred command, with Colonel William Kwesi Ohemeng handing over the bits of the Horses, keys of the Fighting Vehicles, and command of the Troops, to Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) David Kwesi Korsah, after the former’s tenure of sixteen months.

A colourful parade by a contingent of 6 Officers and 85 Soldiers to honour Col Ohemeng, was held at the Abugah Square, Gondar Barracks, Burma camp, Accra, on Thursday August 31, 2023, at which the Commander, 15 Armoured Brigade (15 Armd Bde) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Ben Gah – who oversees the active Armoured Corps of the Ghana Army, was the Guest of Honour.
Col Ohemeng, who moves to the Army Headquarters as Director, G3, after being at 153 Armd Regt from April 14 2022, has left a great mark at Ghana Army’s premier Armoured Regiment after his short stint at Gondar Barracks.

After his assumption of office, in anticipation of a huge number of new Young Soldiers to be posted into the Regiment, he transformed an abandoned dilapidated classroom block at the barracks, into a 100-unit dormitory type accommodation with the necessary facilities, to make the Young Soldiers comfortable.
To enhance good working conditions at duty points, conditions in the restrooms were enhanced by improving water supply, and providing beds and mattresses, whiles DSTV Television channels were availed to enable personnel to be updated with current affairs.

To boost troops’ feeding, the Unit poultry farm project was initiated, the construction of a pig sty is currently about 80% in progress, boreholes have been sunk for the Regiment’s Water Factory, to increase output, and another drilled for the Young Soldiers’ accommodation.
There also has been the construction of two self-contained single unit accommodation for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs), which is also about 80% completed; the construction of a 3-unit Washroom at Standby duty point; and the establishment of a barbering shop.

Dignitaries present at the event included Brig Gen Winfred Dzandu-Hedidor – former Director General, International Peace Support Operations; Brig Gen Isaac Paintsil – Commander, Army Special Operations Brigade; Brig Gen Cornelius Kobla Lithur – Deputy Chief Staff Officer, Policy & Plans, Army; Brig Gen Daniel Kwadjo Frimpong (Rtd) of the Spurs and Sprockets Association, Commanding Officers, Officers, Senior NCOs, Defence Civilian Staff, family and friends.
