Commandant, Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) – Major General (Maj Gen) Matthew Kweku Essien, and members of the College Staff, paid a courtesy call on the Libyan Ambassador to Ghana – His Excellency (HE) Khamis Baraka Ibrahim, at the Libyan Embassy in Accra, Ghana.
The purpose of the visit on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, was to strengthen the bilateral ties between Ghana and Libya, especially after Maj Gen MK Essien (Ing) led a delegation to attend the African Conference of Commandants (ACoC), in Tripoli, Libya, earlier.

HE KB Ibrahim, on behalf of the Libyan government and diplomatic team, extended a warm welcome to the delegation, stating that Ghana and Libya share many similarities, despite the geographical distance.
He outlined the Embassy’s crucial role in enhancing coordination and collaboration between the two nations, and added that Ghana is not just a national heritage, but also a legacy for the entire African Continent to uphold.

HE Ibrahim commended Ghana for its unwavering support to fellow African countries, and acknowledged her pivotal contributions to the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement, underscoring the nation’s influential position in regional and continental affairs.
In his remarks, Major General Essien highlighted the enduring relationship between Ghana and Libya, as a bond that has persisted since Ghana’s independence, emphasizing the significance of Pan-Africanism, which was first championed in 1963 as a vehicle for fostering unity among African nations.
The Commandant stated that Pan-Africanism aimed to encourage Africans to unite as one people and one family, promoting love and solidarity across the continent, which is the spirit that inspired the establishment of GAFCSC, as a college dedicated to enhancing collaboration, coordination, and self-reliance among African countries.

General Essien urged both Ghana and Libya to continue strengthening their bilateral ties, as he underscored the importance of mutual support in advancing shared goals and aspirations.
As a symbol of commitment, the Commandant presented a plaque to the Ambassador, who reciprocated with a similar gesture, to reflect not only diplomatic courtesy, but also deeper commitment to fostering cooperation between Ghana and Libya.
