The Ghanaian Contingent Commander (CONTICO) of United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Colonel (Col) Michael Yaw Edem Adzo paid a working visit to the Second Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 2), to familiarize himself and interact with Officers and Soldiers of the GHANBATT.
The visit on Monday 22 January 2024, was at the Battalion Headquarters, Athony Company Operating Base (COB) in Sector South, where the CONTICO inspected a quarter Guard on his arrival at Athony COB, and was briefed by the Commanding Officer (CO), UNISFA GHANBATT 2 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Edward Sarpong Appiah on GHANBATT’s Operational Activities in Sector South of UNISFA Area of Operation, and toured the camp to acquaint himself with the conditions in the COB.

The CONTICO then participated in an all rank durbar with the Battalion, and commended GHANBATT for the dedication and commitment in achieving UNISFA’s mandate in the Abyei Box, as he also reminded troops on UN policy of zero-tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), and admonished them to ensure strict compliance to the measures and regulations adopted to prevent SEA.
He also urged them to remain disciplined and adopt a robust posture in the discharge of their duties at all times, since the security situation in the sector is unpredictable.

The CONTICO also commended Lt Col ES Appiah for his dedicated efforts, and expressed appreciation to GHANBATT for the warm reception and professionalism demonstrated on his visit which was climaxed with a lunch at the Officers’ Mess, with some Key Appointment Holders of the Battalion.
