A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission paid a working visit to the Headquarters of Operation Enhanced Koudanlgou – the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) – co-located with the Ghana Army Northern Command Headquarters at Nyohini, in Tamale.

The visit on Tuesday 16 May 2023, was to familiarise themselves with the operational capabilities and readiness of the MNJTF and also offer their support.
The Commander, MNJTF – Major General (Maj Gen) Michael Amoah-Ayisi noted that the operation is still in its early stages, with coordination among member states to develop the necessary Standard Operating Procedures and Rules of Engagement, coupled with other protocols which would, subsequently fully operationalise the MNJTF Headquarters.

Maj Gen Amoah-Ayisi reiterated the need to use more non-kinetic approaches to ensure the local populace volunteer to give more information to help to combat the threat of terrorism.
The leader of the delegation – Ambassador Abdul-Fatau Musah lauded the efforts of ECOWAS Member States, for their foresight with the Accra Initiative, and declared the unflinching support of the ECOWAS Commission towards the operations of the JMHQ.

He further averred that the African-led operations tend to be successful, citing ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) and the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) as examples.
