Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) – Her Excellency (HE) Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, has underscored the importance of collaboration in dealing with security threats in the West African sub-region.
“It is great to have a partner like the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) who creates room for effective and sustained collaboration”, the ECOWAS Vice President said this when the Executive Management of KAIPTC, led by the Commandant of the Centre – Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Addo Gyane, paid a courtesy call on her in Abuja, Nigeria, on Monday 19 June 2023.

“We are all family and interconnected within the sub-region, so whatever happens in one country affects the other. Collaboration is key, considering the security challenges and realities in the sub-region”, Miss Tchintchibidja stated.
She said women, peace, security and gender issues are high on the agenda of ECOWAS and that it is important to collaborate effectively in addressing the gaps in terms of inclusion and participation of women in all aspects of preventing and recovering from conflicts and peacebuilding.

She noted that issues of migration in the sub-region are worrying, and there is an urgent need to find solutions in dealing with the phenomenon which affects women and the younger population.
Maj Gen Gyane, in response said as ECOWAS’ Training Centre of Excellence in the sub-region, KAIPTC has over the years collaborated with ECOWAS in ensuring peace and security, adding that for a strengthened security architecture in West Africa, there is a strong need for effective collaboration and cooperation at all levels.
