Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Technical Training School (EMETTS), have won the West African Vehicle Academy (WAVA) Diagnostic Competition for keeps, having won the prestigious trophy and stiff challenge for 3 consecutive times.
Led by their Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Emmanuel Essilfie Odoom, a team from EMETTS presented the prestigious trophy to the Commandant, Training and Doctrines Command (TRADOC) – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Eric Adu, on Friday 21 February 2025, at the Whistler Barracks, Teshie Ridge, Accra.

Admiral Adu praised Lt Col EE Odoom and EMETTS for brightening the image of GAF, in beating off rigid opposition from renowned vehicle engineering organizations consistently for three years, and tauted it as a great achievement.
He, thus urged the champions to maintain the trend set with hard work, and to train new personnel who would even perform above their predecessors, since their competitors would do everything to offset EMETTS’ hold.
He further admonished EMETTS to deepen their knowledge acquired and share expertise with other Units under the Army, Navy and Air Force, since modern vehicles are based on modern electronics technologies and machines, for vehicle maintenance within GAF to be topnotch.

Since 2021, EMETTS has been participating in training sessions organized by WAVA – a Mechatronics Training facility, which is a partnership between Rana Motors, Robert Bosch Ghana and Gesellschaft fúr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – a German public enterprise implementing technical cooperation projects on behalf of the German Government.
WAVA offers technical training for automotive technicians of Rana Motors Service Network, Bosch Service Network, and Instructors from public and private technical schools and universities.
WAVA commenced its annual Diagnostic Competition in the year 2022, for all institutions that participate in their training programmes, with EMETTS taking part in the maiden and subsequent contests, which the school’s products – Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt) Banyeh Kofi Amos, Warrant Officer Class II Boazor Colebel, and S/Sgt Azah-Derry Stanley, won in 2022, 2023 and 2024, respectively.

With the last edition being held in December 2024, competing institutions that participated in the contests include Accra Technical University (ATU), Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), Government Technical Training Centre (GTTC), Ghana National Association of Garages, Accra Technical Institute, Tema Technical Institute, and Applied Technology Institute, to name a few.
