The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Guinea-Bissau – His Excellency (HE) General Umaro Sissoco Embalo, joined the Ghanaian Company serving with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), to commemorate Ghana’s 68th Independence Day Anniversary.
The Anniversary which was marked on Thursday 6th March 2025 under the theme “Reflect, Review, Reset” was held at GHANCOY Headquarters in the Presidential Palace, and featured key activities such as a flag-raising ceremony, cultural display, mortar drill display and a photo exhibition.

HE General Umaro Sissoco Embalo, in a solidarity speech acknowledged the cordial relationship between Guinea-Bissau and Ghana, and praised the first President of the Republic of Ghana – Dr Kwame Nkrumah, for his tremendous efforts towards an independent and united African continent.
Speaking on behalf of Ghana’s Honorary Consul to Guinea-Bissau, Mr Razak Atchulo, who is also a Consular Officer mentioned that Ghana as a nation has no other option but to continue to sustain the peace it enjoys, which would in turn broaden the frontiers of democracy and development.


Present at the event was a representative of the Chief of the Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of Guinea-Bissau, Service Chiefs, the Deputy Force Commander ESSMGB, Resident Representative of ECOWAS, members of the Diplomatic Corps in Guinea-Bissau, members of the Ghanaian Community, and other invited guests.
