A delegation from the European Union Military Staff (EUMS) led by Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Michel Van Der Laan, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, on Wednesday 4 March 2025 at the General Headquarters.
The visit aimed to congratulate General Oppong-Peprah on his promotion to a four-star General and to explore ways to strengthen collaborations between GAF and the European Union (EU).


Lt Gen Van Der Laan commended General Oppong-Peprah for his exceptional leadership. He assured the CDS of EU’s support for GAF’s kinetic and non-kinetic operations.
He also posited the EU’s commitment to providing training assistance and logistics to bolster GAF’s capabilities.

General Oppong-Peprah expressed gratitude for the EU’s support, which had enhanced GAF’s operational capacity.
He also emphasized the need for more Civil-Military cooperation (CIMIC) operations particularly in the northern sector and increased surveillance in Ghana’s water bodies and land space in order to win hearts and minds and maintain the territorial integrity of the country by land, sea and air respectively.
