Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) Forces Pay Regiment (FPR) has held a parade to commemorate the closing of its six-week Young Soldiers Orientation Cadre, for 53 young soldiers, which comprised of twenty-eight (28) Soldiers, thirteen (13) Ratings, and twelve (12) Airmen and Airwomen.
The parade for the closing ceremony of the orientation cadre, took place at the FPR’s Regiment Parade Square, on Friday 15 December, 2023, with the Commanding Officer (CO) of the Regiment – Colonel (Col) Theophilus Oswald Afotey Laryea as the Reviewing Officer (RO).
In a speech, the RO stated that the comprehensive orientation cadre aims not only at honing the skills of the young clerks, but to also instill in them the values that define the Regiment as Pay Masters and Pay Clerks in the GAF.

During the intensive training cadre, the new soldiers delved into scores of subjects crucial for their professional development, Col Laryea stated, to improve their professional proficiency and competency in selected subject areas such as Pay and Allowances, Pension and Gratuity, Retirement and Resettlement.
The course also aspired to enhance professional understanding, cultivate the foundations of good leadership, weave a tapestry of teamwork, coordination, physical and mental resilience and operational readiness among participants, and to foster a deep connection to the Regiment’s routines and traditions.
Col Laryea admonished his new clerks to stay curious, adapt to change, continuously seek opportunities to expand their knowledge, lead with Integrity, uphold instilled values, let honesty and ethics define their actions, value teamwork, foster a spirit of collaboration, understanding and support – remembering that success is sweeter when shared.

At the Awards; OVERALL BEST went Ordinary Seaman (OS) Gidiglo Selorm Kwame; CO’s SPECIAL AWARD to Private (Pte) Adu Antwi Bernice (Parade Commander); 1ST RUNNER UP to Aircraftman Two (ACII) Locco Grace; and 2nd RUNNER UP to ACII Oppong Augustine.
Present included Director, GAF Pensions Office – Col Deegbe; Col Gyebi Abrukwa; Col Brown; Col Osei-Gyebi; Officers, Sergeant Majors, Soldiers, and Defence Civilian Staff.
