Ghana Army (GA), staying the course on its quest of revival, has delivered another 100-bed accommodation block for Young Soldiers of 1 Infantry Battalion (1Bn), Michel Camp, Tema.

The new accommodation facility was commissioned on Thursday 2 December, 2021, with the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah as the Guest-of-Honour.
In a speech, the COAS said GAF, with the support of the government of Ghana, will continue in its endeavour to ameliorate the accommodation challenges faced by its troops. He cited Michel Camp’s record of accommodating personnel from other Units and Services of GAF, since time immemorial, and commended them for that.

He challenged Commanders of various Units to be encouraged and innovative, and not to be weighed down by lack of resources, but to acknowledge that so long as humans live on earth, there will be challenges.
The Army Commander stated that in his routine tour of the Units under his command, he had observed a spate of healthy competition among the Units, in trying to develop by self-help, in spite of the scarcity of resources – a phenomenon which he extolled.

He acknowledged and highly commended Mr David Paa Kwesi Yarquah, for funding the construction of the 100-bed facility. Same donated three (3) Hyundai i10 vehicles to the GA Headquarters in June, 2020.
Since the assumption of office in February 2020, even under COVID-19 restrictions, which has globally caused economic depression, the COAS has been able to orchestrate the construction of monumental facilities at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase, and many Units of the Army.

Present at the commissioning included the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command (S/COMD) – Brigadier General Michael Amoah Ayisi, Senior Officers from the Army Headquarters, the Commanding Officer, 1 Bn – Lieutenant Colonel Simeone Barifi Nyante, Officers, the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) – SWO II Dogbe Joy, the Contractor for the project – Mr Sam Opare-Agyemang of Silicon Pro, Warrant Officers, Soldiers, and Defence Civilian Staff.
