A team of the Ghana Army (GA) Female Hockey Team, in two parties, have departed Accra to participate in the 24th Women Africa Cup for Club Championship (ACCC) 2023 Hockey Tournament to be held at Dashmesh Hockey Stadium, Sikh Union Club – Nairobi, Kenya, from 13 to 19 February 2023.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah announced that the Team is being facilitated to compete in the contest when the Army Sports Teams presented Individual and Team awards – won from various competitions for the period spanning year 2022 and January 2023, to the Army Commander on 9 February 2023, at the Army Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, Ghana.
Peace Journal can, however, confirm that the team embarked for the tourney in two parties; one on Saturday 11, and another on Sunday 12 February, 2023, due to flight arrangements, to play against teams like Strathmore University, Lakers, Blazer (all of Kenya), Delta Queens, Kada Queens (all of Nigeria) and GRA Ladies (Ghana).
At the event, the COAS also promoted Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Katadat Rashaka – Ghana’s 2022 National Best Volleyball Player – to the rank of Corporal (Cpl), and highly commended Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt) Ntaaga George – Ghana’s new National Male Volleyball Team’s Assistant Coach.
The trophies presented to the COAS by the athletes, complement other honours earlier presented to the COAS in November 2022.

Detailing the Army athletes’ attainments, the Chief G7 (Training) – Colonel (Col) GNA Dottey stated that the Teams won 21 Gold, 17 Silver and 9 Bronze Medals in the 18 sporting events that they competed in, in the 2022 sporting year; Winners of the Greater Accra Regional Volleyball Champion of Champions Tournament, Winners of the Greater Accra Regional Women’s Table Tennis League, Winners of the Greater Accra Regional Hockey Tournament and the National Sheroes Trophy, among others.
Maj Gen T Oppong-Peprah charged the teams to continue to be disciplined in all aspects of their lives and to work hard to be the best individual and teams in the Year 2023.
