GAF 6 GAR HOLDS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Base Commander, Air Force Base Tamale – Air Commodore (A/Cdre) Joshua Mensah-Larkai has made a call for all to join the fight against Breast Cancer, to give the needed attention to minimize the disheartening canker.

He made these remarks during a program held by the 6 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Saturday 21 October 2023, to create awareness on Breast Cancer, on the theme; “early detection saves life; join the fight”, which was aimed at educating women on the importance of screening to detect breast cancer early.

A/Cdre Mensah-Larkai also suggested that GAF incorporates breast cancer screening into the medical examinations of troops before deployment and potential recruits, as part of the awareness efforts.

The program which was held simultaneously across two locations; the Nyohini Camp and the Airborne Force Medical Reception Service (ABF MRS), Tamale, commenced with a health walk through some principal streets in the Tamale Metropolis.

At both locations, about 300 women including soldiers, defence civilian staff, wives of soldiers and some women from the surrounding communities were screened and educated on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, risk factors, preventive measures and treatment options available. In all.

Prior to the event, medical officers from the 6 MRS and the ABF MRS embarked on a media engagement tour at some radio stations, to further create the awareness of breast cancer to the general public.
