The 6 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has held Breast Cancer Awareness campaign comprising Health walk, Educational Talk and Breast Screening, to observe the Global Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which falls in October.
The event, which was themed, “Screen Early, Live Longer, Join the Fight,” was held on Friday 25 October 2024 concurrently, at the Bawah Barracks and Camp Nyohini, with sponsorship by Services Integrity Savings and Loans (SIS&L), and facilitation by the Garrison Commander – Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai.

The event brought together appreciable number of the Garrison personnel and their families, particularly the Air Wives Organization (AWO) of the Ghana Air Force (GHF), to observe the awareness campaign.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei, in his address admonished personnel to take breast cancer seriously, and to use the opportunity to get tested, since early detection and treatment saves life.

Additionally, he encouraged personnel to adopt proactive healthy lifestyles, with health education awareness and regular screening, and advised personnel to avoid stigmatizing friends and family members, who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Northern Regional Manager, SIS&L – Mr Dauda Issaka, remarked that breast cancer is one of the commonest cancers, the second leading cause of cancer deaths globally, and thus urged all to join in the fight against the dreadful disease that has brought suffering to individuals, families and communities, to attain the dream of breast cancer becoming curable.
