The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) William Agyapong hosted a gathering of all Two-Star Generals in Ghana’s military, at his office at Burma Camp, Accra.
During the meeting on Monday, 28 April 2025, the CDS expressed appreciation and admiration for the Generals’ exceptional professionalism and dedicated service to the Ghana.

He extended gratitude from the President and Commander-in-Chief, GAF, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to Ghana’s military.
General Agyapong then informed the Generals gathered that, to aid command and control in the Armed Forces, many of them present are to be released honourably from the service, in accordance with GAF regulations.
The Commandant, National College of Defence Studies (NCDS) – Maj Gen Irvine Aryeetey, on behalf of the Generals present stated that, the current change in Ghana’s Military High Command structure, was nothing new but consistent with the history of the GAF.
To Buttress his point, Maj Gen Aryeetey posited that as tradition demands, new intakes take over from their predecessors, citing the Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Obed Boamah Akwa handing over as CDS to Vice Admiral (V/Adm) Seth Amoama, who was 5 Intakes down the line (Intake 18 to 23).
Additionally, in the case of CDS V/Adm S Amoama and General T Oppong-Peprah, it was 3 Intakes down the line – Intakes 23 and 26.

He concluded that, the current change in command between the immediate past CDS, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah and the current CDS – Maj Gen W Agyapong, which is 4 intakes down the line, was consistent with GAF’s military tradition.
He then expressed gratitude to the CDS for inviting them to formally inform and honour them, which he said, was a novelty.
The meeting concluded with a luncheon hosted by the CDS at his office, and also attended by all of GAF’s Service Chiefs and the Chief of Staff, General Headquarters.
