The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Force (GAF) – Vice Admiral (V/Adm) Seth Amoama has paid a day’s working visit to the Ghana Company 1 (GHANCOY 1), serving with the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB) to familiarize himself with operations, administrative and logistics state of the Unit.

The visit which was also to ascertain the wellbeing of troops since its inception in June 2022, took place at the GHANCOY Camp in the Presidential Palace, Bissau on Sunday 18 December 2022, and was part of the CDS’ itinerary, attending the ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference in Guinea-Bissau, from 17-21 December 2022.
The visit by the CDS, which is the first official visit from Ghana/GAF to the Unit, also had the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence – Brigadier General James Hagan and Deputy Director General of Joint Operations at the General Headquarters – Colonel OJ Ampadu, as part of the CDS’ delegation.

In an interaction with the troops, the CDS said the entire GAF is proud of the performance of ESSMGB-GHANCOY 1, especially the Company’s tireless efforts and sacrifices to ensure peace and stability in Guinea-Bissau. He further applauded the hard work, dedication and determination exhibited by the troops thus far.
He emphasised that GHANCOY’s role in protecting the President and the presidency of Guinea-Bissau, as well as key installations in the country, depicts the level of confidence and trust the Presidency of Guinea-Bissau has in the GAF. He therefore, urged the TF to keep up the good work, and assured the Combat Team Commander (CT Comd) of his commitment to address the challenges faced by the Unit.

The CT Comd of ESSMGB GHANCOY 1 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) David Korsah, expressed appreciation to the CDS for his immense efforts towards the Task Force’s formation and deployment, welcomed the CDS and briefed him and the entourage on activities of the TF, and enumerated the TF’s successes as well as challenges.
The visit was climaxed by a lunch with the CDS and his entourage, where there was exchange of gifts.
