The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, paid a days working visit to the Naval Headquarters to acquaint himself with the operations and challenges of the Ghana Navy.
The CDS and his entourage, on Monday 10 June 2024, were welcomed to the Naval Headquarters by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Issah Adam Yakubu, and other Senior Officers of the Naval Headquarters.

R/Adm IA Yakubu reaffirmed the loyalty of the Ghana Navy to the CDS, and assured him of Ghana Navy’s unwavering commitment to the leadership and vision of the Military High Command.
The Deputy Director, Policy at the Naval Headquarters – Commander Michael Kwaw Awuah, made a presentation on behalf of the CNS to the CDS, on the state of the Ghana Navy, highlighting the mission and vision, modernization and expansion of the Navy, threats in the maritime domain, current organization, ongoing projects, future projections, achievements and challenges facing the Ghana Navy.

He informed the CDS of the Navy’s efforts to enhance maritime security and surveillance, modernization of its fleet and equipment, improve personnel welfare and training, proposed expansion of the Naval Headquarters complex and the acquisition of offshore patrol vessels.
Lt Gen T Oppong-Peprah on his part, expressed his appreciation for Ghana Navy’s efforts in maintaining the country’s maritime security, and assured them of his support in enhancing their capabilities, and pledged to help acquire a Japanese Patrol Vessel, to boost the fight against illicit maritime activities.

He also commended R/Adm Yakubu for his sterling leadership, and the numerous projects undertaken by the Navy, however, acknowledging the challenges faced by the Navy in carrying out its duties, and promised to address them, assuring, “We will work together to address the challenges you face”.
Members of the CDS entourage included the Chief of Staff (COS) at the General Headquarters – Major General (Maj Gen) Joseph Prince Osei-Owusu; Deputy COS (DCOS), Logistics – R/Adm Samuel Agyenim-Boateng; DCOS, Policy and Plans – Maj Gen Daniel Nyarko; DCOS, Medical Services – Maj Gen Raymond Ewusi, and the Forces Sergeant Major – Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Addo.
