The Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital (GAFCCEH) commemorated World Blood Donor Day which fell on Saturday 14 June 2025, with the celebration highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation, recognizing the invaluable contributions of blood donors.
Under the themes for the 2025 edition of “Give Blood Give Hope”, and “Together We Save Lives”, the Commander, GAFCCEH – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Thomas Aquinas Gbireh, emphasized that blood donation is a noble act that requires compassion, empathy, and a willingness to help others.

He noted that blood is essential for critical care, particularly for patients undergoing surgery or living with chronic conditions, and thus stressed the significance of a reliable blood supply, especially, for patients receiving dialysis services at the hospital.
He encouraged the public to donate blood voluntarily, highlighting the critical role it plays in ensuring the health and well-being of patients, as he further stated that GAFCCEH would be opening a blood bank service soon, and will be opened to the general public.

The commemoration included a health walk by GAFCCEH Officers, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff, who walked through the El Wak Sports Stadium and the 37 Lorry Station route, to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, and to promote voluntary blood donation.
GAFCCEH urged the public to join the noble cause of blood donation, and make a significant difference in the lives of patients in need.
