The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) commemorated World Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Day at the 66 Artillery Regiment (66Arty Regt) in Ho, with a 9 kilometer health walk, and a durbar under the theme: “Let Communities Lead”.
A durbar was held on Thursday 30 November 2023, at the Baba Seidu Abass Swimming Pool, at the 66 Arty Regt, with the Guest of Honour being the Public Health Director, Ghana Health Service, Volta Region – Dr Senana Kwesi Djokoto.

He encouraged the public to always visit health facilities to get tested, and also emphasised the need to adopt protective measures, in order to prevent contracting the virus.
The Senior Medical Officer (SMO), 7 Medical Reception Station (7MRS) – Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Francis Oduah-Odoom, addressed the gathering, informing them that the program was to create awareness and remind the public of the existence of HIV/AIDS, and the need for everyone to be careful.

He continued that the day is usually observed on 1 December of every year, however, the 2023 edition, coinciding with Ghana’s celebration of its farmers on that day, caused the commemoration to be marked on 30 November.
As part of the programme, which was graced by personnel from other sister security services, such as the Ghana Police Service, Prisons Service, National Fire Service, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, condoms, HIV/AIDS self-test packs and information leaflets were distributed to the public.
