Ghana’s Ministry of Defence and Military High Command have been tasked by the Commander-In-Chief (C-In-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – His Excellency (HE) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to commence the process of establishing a War College in Ghana in 2023.

The C-In-C made the announcement at the General Headquarters (GHQ) version of the West Africa Soldier Social Activity (WASSA), which was held on Wednesday 1 February 2023, where he was the Guest-of-Honour, and further stated that he had already directed the Ghana Educational Trust Fund (GETFUND), to provide the seed capital, for the establishment of the GAF War College.
HE President Akufo-Addo used the occasion to acknowledge with gratitude the friendship of the United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Federal Republic of Germany, People’s Republic of China, Norway and Denmark, who continue to collaborate with and support the Ghana Armed Forces in diverse ways, to promote the development of its infrastructure, enhance training and acquire equipment.

He further called for the deepening and strengthening of ties of cooperation amongst countries, which he says, is vital to making the world a safer place, and expressed the hope that this collaboration will continue to grow from strength to strength in coming years.
To all personnel of the GAF, the Chief Commander said the Government and People of Ghana continue to appreciate the sacrifices of GAF towards ensuring peace and security both internally and externally.

He continued that joint patrols with the Ghana Police Service to combat armed robbery and other crimes, keeping land borders safe, protection of maritime domain and airspace to secure strategic assets, provision of health services to many civilians in areas not deployed, protection of the environment, the fight against illegal mining, opening up of remote areas for economic activities, continued assistance through programs targeting deprived communities in society, and improving the maintenance of peace and security in Ghana, have been well acknowledged.
“On the international scene, you continue to bring credit to our nation by your performance in peace operations in Mali, Sudan, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia and the Lebanon. I assure you that Government will not relent in its efforts in transforming the GAF into a formidable modern force and will continue to help enhance the capacity and capabilities of the Armed Forces towards the development of Ghana”, the C-In-C concluded.
The socializing event saw the famed Ghanaian singer and rapper – Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, professionally known as Black Sherif, perform hit songs with the Armed Forces Central Band, after which 3 extraordinary ladies took the program by storm with their “Di Asa” endowments.

A few of the large number of dignitaries present at the event were Member of Parliament (MP), Bimbilla and Minister for Defence – Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul, MP Nandom and Minister for Interior – Ambrose Dery, MP Atwima-Kwanwoma – Kofi Amankwa-Manu, MP Korle-Klottey and Deputy Ranking, Parliament Select-Committee for Defence and Interior – Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Chief of Staff, General Headquarters, Senior Officers, Officers, Forces Sergeant Major, Service and Regimental Sergeant Majors, Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff.
