The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Matthew Essien led a delegation to call on the Overlord of Builsa Traditional Area, His Majesty Nab Azagsuk II at his palace in Sandema, Upper East Region of Ghana, to hold talks and to inform the Overlord of the intention of Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to establish a military base at Sandema.
The GOC, who was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive of Builsa North – Madam Vida Anaab, on Thursday 13 July 2023, averred that due to the situation on the Northern borders of the country, there was the need to establish a military base in the town.
His Majesty Nab Azagsuk II, on the other hand, stated that it was an honour for his town to be selected as a site for military base and assured the GOC that he had his blessings for the commencement of the project.
General Essien said the military base would serve as a Forward Operating Base for operations along the borders. The GOC was later taken on a tour of the land earmarked for the establishment of the military base.
