GAFCCEH HOLDS BREAST CANCER/DRUG ABUSE EX FOR GAF SENIOR HIGH/TECH SCHOOL

As part of activities to promote breast cancer awareness, and substance abuse education, the Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital (GAFCCEH) held a sensitization forum for students of Forces Senior High and Technical School (FSHTS), Burma Camp, Accra.

The talk, on Wednesday 23 October 2024, was part of the Commander, GAFCCEH – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Evelyn Vivian Kwabiah’s initiative to inspire students and teachers to prioritize their health and adopt healthy lifestyles.

A medical team led by Dr Lukman Ahmed Qinan – Physician Specialist, GAFCCEH reiterated the need for early detection towards saving lives, and emphasized the need to break the chains of silence, stigma, and fear concerning breast cancer.

Other members of the team – Dr Gyedu Yeboah and Dr Gloria Owusu, also reiterated the harmful effects of substance abuse associated with students, and encouraged them to desist  from such acts, and to disabuse some misconceptions about breast cancer.

The Administrative Officer, GAFCCEH – Captain (Capt) IB Koranteng further mentioned that as part of the Commander’s initiative concerning promotion of health among students, regular health talks would be organized for the students, in order to share knowledge and information about specific health issues.

He added that such sessions would also highlight the importance and impact of health issues,  motivate and encourage individuals to take action for their health, providing tools, resources and support, to help students make informed decisions.

The function which had about 100 students screened for breast cancer related issues, saw GAFCCEH’s Administrative Officer, Physician Specialist, 2 Medical Officers, Registered and Public Health Nurses, participate in the exercise.
