In an attempt to ensure self-sufficiency and efficiency, the Forces Pay Regiment (FPR) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), with the support of a benefactor – PHILBRO PROPERTIES GH LTD, has cut sod for the construction of a prefabricated single-storey New Archives Block, to help solve the challenge of files overflow in the Regiment’s current Archives Block.

A groundbreaking event for the New Archives Block project was held at the FPR, Burma Camp, Accra, on Friday 8 March, 2024, where the Defence Financial Comptroller (DFC) of GAF – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Daniel Kofi Amissah, was the Guest of Honour, ably assisted by the Commander, Support Services Brigade Group (SP SVCS BDE GP) – Brig Gen Selassie Gagakuma.

Brig Gen DK Amissah said it is an obvious fact that renovations and re-construction of old office structures is a crucial welfare requirement of the Forces Pay Corps, to ensure that personnel are able to move around freely, to carry out their duties to improve efficiency.

He continued to say that the requirement for larger office space has become necessary, as a result of the increasing manpower levels of GAF over the years, and that in spite of efforts by the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Defence to bridge this gap, the medium to long term needs for adequate working space still persists.

Being aware that the current Archives Block of FPR is overflowing with files, making it difficult for storage and leaving no space for new files, Brig Gen Amissah said the project, when completed, would help mitigate the storage challenges of the FPR, and help in easy organization and retrieving of files when needed.

He commended the concept of Civilian-Military partnerships and cooperation, which he said is indicative of the strong civilian goodwill towards the military, which must be strengthened to encourage more, for the nation’s benefit.

Mr Philip Nana Kwame Brobbey – Chief Executive Officer (CEO), PHILBRO PROPERTIES and PHILBRO OIL, who deal in properties, edible oil, commodities and spaghetti, said his organizations occasionally provide support, not only for the military, but also to educational, and health setups.

He promised that his team will ensure that the project is delivered in a record time of 12 weeks, to honour the FPR to have a modern structure, not made of concrete, bricks and mortar, but of steel and prefabricated materials, for their records.

Present at the event included the Commanding Officer, FPR – Colonel Miki Adusei Nkrumah; his Second-in-Command – Lieutenant Colonel Benefo; Senior Officers, Officers, Regimental Sergeant Major, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff.
